November 2018 BoxyCharm & Look

With gold, glittering aspects in every product of this month’s Goal Digger themed Boxycharm, look your best and shine your way to the top with perfectly curated products for the start of the holiday season.

JonteBlue Glittering Stay Eyeliner : This black based pencil liner has pigment with a bunch, and a gorgeous gold reflect that you can actually see.

CoverFX Glitter Drops in Nova : Okay, so this product scared me at first. All of CoverFX’s products are intensely pigmented, so when I unboxed this to reveal concentrated glitter… I panicked. After trying this in a few different ways my favorite way to shine with this is by using it as a layering product for powder highlight. A true metallic gold with yellow undertones and a multi-dimensional shift, this is definitely the stand out product of this month’s box for me.

Luxie Luminous Eye Set : All of Luxie’s brush products work wonderfully, and this set is no different. This limited edition collaboration with Boxycharm feature 4 synthetic brushes, perfect for everyday or on-the-go makeup application. 141 Mini Round brush, 121 Mini Tapered brush, 111 Mini Flat Angled brush, and 131 Mini Angled brush. I have a large lid space so I prefer fluffier brushes typically for blending shadows into the crease, but the 131 has recently become a go to brush for when when I want really precise application in the crease.

Ace Beaute Grandiose Palette : With 4 shimmer and 4 matte shades this palette is perfect for someone who’s looking to change up their color story for fall while not staying away from bolder pigments. For me, the amount of products that I have in my collection kind of keep me from gravitating towards this… but the pigmentation and payoff is beautiful.

Lashaholic Instaglam False Lashes : Made with premium silk fibers, these vegan falsies provide natural-looking length and volume.

As always, here’s a look using the products. The only product not used in this look is the JonteBlue Glittering Star Eyeliner.

What did you guys get in your box this month ?

Fuschia for Fall

Something about the way fuschia makes brown eyes pop had me feeling myself the other day while wearing this makeup. On a Monday. Judge me.

EYES : Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate, Morphe E/S in Rosewood, Secretive, 35O2 (Whiz), Juvia’s Place Zulu palette (Pink Shadow), NYX Face and Body Glitter in Bronze & Pink, Essence Cosmetics Super Precise Liner, IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara, Kiss Lashes in Teddy

Using a small bit of the NYX Face & Body Glitters on the center of the eye really made this gorgeous look pop. When using loose glitter products I’ve found the best way to adhere them to the eyes without fallout is with the NYX Glitter Glue. Apply a small amount to the back of your hand and with a flat synthetic brush coat the adhesive and pat on the eye. Using the same brush, pick up a little more adhesive, then coat the brush in glitter, tap off excess and apply to the eye.

SKIN : Urban Decay Optical Illusion Primer, L.A. Girl Cosmetics HD Pro Face Primer, Wet N Wild Beauty Photofocus Foundation in Cocoa and Mocha, Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape in Tan-Deep Sand, Maybelline Cosmetics Better Skin Concealer in Medium, Better Skin Setting Powder in Medium-Deep, Laura Mercier TLSP in Medium-Deep, ELF Cosmetics Blush Quad in Deep, Pur Cosmetics Midnight Masquerade palette (Twilight)

The end result is a multi-faceted, light catching beautifully reflected eye look. Monday never looked so good 🙂

LIPS : Bare Minerals Liquid Lipstick in Om

Paired with a neutral toned nude, this look is intentionally dramatic enough to take from work to a night out while still remaining elegant. That’s just my opinion though. And if you’re feeling bold, pair this with a raspberry lip to add even more pink tones for a girl’s night out.

Thanks for stopping by guys ! Would you wear this ?

September/October 2018 Misses

Buying beauty products is my vice..and most time I don’t fall in love with everything I buy. Some don’t live up to my expectation, others aren’t flattering and sometimes a product is just crap. I figured I would start a series here on just those products. If you currently use anything I mention, lemme know how you’re making it work !

Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara in Extreme Black : The wand on this product it entirely too large for me. The brush is huge you guys, the formula is extremely thick and clumps my short lashes for a really unflattering look. And when applied to the bottom lashes….forget it. It smudges all over my lower lid making it look like I was crying the whole time. Not impressed. I’m going to continue to use this product on light makeup days, I’m kinda hoping that the formula dries out a bit and becomes more manageable.

L.A. Girl Cosmetics Just Blushing in Just Playful : I was on the hunt for a blush similar to Makeup Revolution’s Blush in Fusion, with a bit more of a mauve undertone and thought this one would be great. But I was wrong. The pigmentation is probably great on a more fair skin tone, but on my cheeks I just look ashy. I don’t recommend this at all for medium-deep complexions.

Rimmel Stay Matte Fix & Go Setting Spray : The smell of this is fantastic, lemme start out by mentioning that first. It’s light floral scent is really refreshing. However, the spray itself… not a fan. The range it covers it really small and I have to spray this about 7-8 times before it fully coats my face. Once it dries down makeup looks uneven and an unflattering sheen remains. Not a fan.

Pretty Vulgar Cosmetics Nightingale : I’m not a huge fan of cool toned shadows to begin with and this palette just didn’t wow me. Not a fail by any means, just not what I currently gravitate to. I did use this in a few Instagram posts, application was easy which allowed for seamless blends. But the color story, for boring and uninteresting. The shimmers in this palette are underwhelming, even after dampening brushes and applying over a base.

Catrice Highlighting Powder in Champagne Campaign : I am and will forever be a highlight aficionado… to the point where it’s probably uneccessary for me to purchase another highlight ever. But still… I need them. That’s my excuse for picking this one up during a random Ulta Blackout shopping trip in September. I was sold once I saw the name, but it’s another disappointment product for me. The formula is way more drying than I enjoy in a powder highlight. It attaches to dry spots and texture and the shade is entirely too fair for my skin tone. If you’re a fair princess though, this might work for you.

Any product recommendations folks? I’d love to hear what works for you, let’s talk in the comments !

Double Ombre Fall Makeup

If you have an instagram you’ve definitely seen the double ombre look trending for some time now, using warm tones I attempted this and it came out surprisingly well… I think. If you’re intimidated by trying a look like this, I get it. It definitely takes a bit of planning, but I encourage you to try ! The only way to get better at makeup is by failing, learning and trying it again.

Step 1 : Using a pencil brush and deep warm brown, carve out a round shape in and above the crease. Flick out into a wing.

Step 2 : With the same pencil brush, add a deep matte orange shade directly above the first shade and lightly blend.

Step 3 : With a fluffy brush take a bright orange shade blend both shades or orange higher onto your lid.

Step 4 : With another fluffy brush blend a matte yellow shade on the lid until just the space below the brow bone remains untouched.

Step 5 : With a flat concealer brush use your favorite concealer to cut the crease below the brown shade. Pack on a white matte eyeshadow all over the lid.

Step 6 : Repeat steps 1-4 using pencil brushes along the top and bottom lash line. Take your time doing this.

Step 7 : Add mascara and lashes

I love how this turned out, I plan on doing a few more double ombre looks so be on the lookout for that. Have you tried this makeup trend? Let’s talk in the comments !

October 2018 BoxyCharm Review/Look

I’m calling this month’s BoxyCharm a win, a nice mix of skincare and beauty products from brands I typically wouldn’t gravitate to or have even heard of, and so far each one shines in it’s own way.

My variation of the box includes PUR Cosmetics Midnight Masquerade face palette, IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara, Dermovia Lace a Peel Black Bamboo Charcoal Face Mask, Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick and Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Strength & Moisture Leave-in Mask

Dermovia Lace a Peel Black Bamboo Charcoal Face Mask : After reading a few reviews and tips before actually using this product, I can confidently say… you only need a THIN layer of the peel off mask. This 2-step mask system strips debris out of pores leaving skin refreshed and renewed. Unlike anything I’ve ever tried before, the peel off mask is to be applied directly to clean dry skin, and topped with a lace mask for 15-20 minutes while the mask does its thing. You look like a huge weirdo while its own, but I’m still gushing over the results. Skin is left baby smooth and glowing !

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Strength & Moisture Leave in Mask : Briogeo products always leave my hair super soft, this leave in spray is absolutely no different. I’ve only used it twice, so as far as long term updates go I don’t have any for you yet.

Kat Von D Liquid Lipstick in Bow and Arrow : This is a new product for me and my first time using anything from this brand. The formula glides on easily and lasts almost 12hours, an amazing feat for any brand, drugstore or high-end.

IT Cosmetics Superhero Mascara : This is the standout product of the month for me, I love the shape of the wand and how it evenly coats and elongates my otherwise unnoticeable natural lashes. The true test of a mascara for me is how it performs on my lower lash line. This mascara coats bottom lashes like a dream. Lashes are perfectly separated for a wide open eye even on days when I only wear mascara and lip balm, I’m amazed at how awake and alert my eyes are.

PUR Cosmetics Midnight Masquerade : Every face product I’ve tried from Pur winds up in a constant rotation (ie, The Sculptor palette) and this one is no different. The formula of the face products are so butter smooth and blend into skin like an absolute dream. The eyeshadows are absolutely stunning. The 6 shadows includes 5 light reflective shimmers and a deep matte neutral brown. My only gripe with this entire palette is the lack of matte shades. It’s not a complete turn off for me, there’s more than enough matte shades in my makeup arsenal to create beautiful seamless looks. Just a note it you’re thinking about purchasing this on your own.

Now that we got all the details of this month’s BoxyCharm out of the way, here’s the first look I created with these products

How would you rate this month’s boxycharm? Thanks for stopping by ! Let’s talk in the comments

If you’ve been following me on Instagram, then you already know I’ve been riding hard for deep plums, cranberries and the color all up in this post, purple.

EYES: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate, Morphe Brushes X Jaclyn Hill Bling Boss (Rockstar, Mystic, Bling Bling, Gem), NYX Cosmetics White Base, Eylure Grand Glamour, Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara

I used the shade Gem as a liner and ever since I’ve been envisioning this gorgeous royal purple satin shade as the center of focus in a few looks, but haven’t been completely satisfied with anything I’ve tried. It’ll happen though, gotta have faith. That’s the thing with makeup, there’s no rules, no limitations and the amount of ways you can wear a product. No color is too bright, no look too dramatic… it’s all in application and how the artist utilizes their imagination. Ugh, there’s another makeup love moment haha, but can you blame me?

SKIN : Smashbox Cosmetics Pore Refining Photofinish Primer, Marc Jacobs Remarcable Foundation in Cocoa Light mixxed with Josie Maran Vibrancy foundation in Reverent, Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define in C12, BareMinerals Pro Powder in Hazelnut, Pur Cosmetics Sculptor (Inventor), elf Cosmetics Blush Quad in Dark, Ofra Cosmetics Highlighter in Blissful

This collection in particular gives you more than enough options of shadows to go crazy with. I love that the entire collection is separated in to 4 palettes each with a specific color story. You can stay within the palette to create gorgeous looks or be a bit more creative and jump into a different color story. I guess you could say I like it.

LIPS: Ruby Kiss by Kiss lip liner in Berry Jam, Nyx Cosmetics Suede Matte lipstick in Girl, Bye, Wet N Wild Beauty Liquid Lipstick in Rebel Rose

Obviously, that’s an understatement though. The vault has been in heavy rotation ever since I got it in the mail. I’ve been trying to incorporate more lip products in my every day makeup as well. I’m finally realizing the correct ways to utilize lip liners in order to enhance and change the tone of lipsticks. It’s a game changer, you should try it.

Thanks for stopping by, let’s talk in the comments.

Fall Copper Makeup

This makeup look is a must for me during the fall. It’s pretty much my go to when I wanna look a bit more glam than normal, but don’t want to try anything new. It’s foolproof and uses some of my favorite products for the face and eyes.

EYES: Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate, Juvias Place Masquerade palette [Ada, Casablanca, Dahlia], Morphe Brushes 35O2 [In The Zone, Rich], Essence Cosmetics Super Precise Liner, Kiss lashes in Teddy
There is a rarely a day when I don’t tap into this Morphe palette. The original 35O is a bit more orange toned, and I still use it regularly, but the brand re-formulated their shadows for a more seamless blend with the 35O2 and I’ve been using it almost non-stop since the day it arrived at my doorstep.

SKIN : Smashbox Cosmetics Pore Refinining Photofinish Primer, L.A. Girl Cosmetics, HD Face Primer, Too Faced Born This way Foundation in Maple, Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer in Tan-Deep Sand, Pur Cosmetics The Sculptor face palette [Inventor],  Makeup Revolution Blush in Fusion, Wet N Wild Beauty Megaglo Highlighter in Crown of my Canopy
The other main focus of this look, Juvia’s Place Masquerade palette is another high use beauty item in my collection simply because of the pigmentation. When it comes down to dollars and cents, you just can’t beat the quality for the price. And their site always has special discount codes and their are affiliate links galore to use.

One of my favorite tricks I’ve learned over the years for silky smooth skin is doubling up on face primer before makeup application. Using a Pore Refining Primer to diminish the look of pores, paired with a silicon based primer like the L.A. Girl HD primer on areas of skin where there’s a bit more texture aids in a flawless like finish.

LIPS : Laqa & Co. Cloud Lips in Storm

Thanks for stopping by, what are some of your go to products for an effortless fall look ? Let’s talk in the comments !

One Week of Lipsticks

If you’re anything like me, you have a surplus of….most makeup items. This post was inspired by another blogger, I loved her post and thought I would try this myself. So thank you again Katie! I love this idea, and I definitely go through enough lip products to do this every now and then. Wait until the very end for the swatches !

NYX Suede Matte Lipstick in Girl, Bye : I randomly bought this shade about a month ago in a drugstore, and after wearing it this week I’m impressed. NYX lip products continue to amaze me. The formula of this is gorgeous, after applying it sets down to a comfortable matte finish…that looks velvety soft. And it lasted for hours without needing a touch-up.

Girlacktik Liquid Lipstick in Demure : This product has been a go-to ever since the temperature has been dropping. I mentioned it in a favorites post, and I don’t think it’s going to be leaving my weekly rotation any time soon.

Morphe Liquid Lip in Peanut : Described on Morphe’s website as a spicy sienna, I would have to disagree. Once dried down this comfortable matte formula is more of a light caramel on my complexion. And it lasts all day, it does need a touch up after eating and drinking. But for $10, I’ll take it.

Urban Decay Liquid Lip in Black Mail : This is a winter necessity in my book. I love a deep vampy purple, and this product is a dreeaaam. The formula is thin, so I have to take my time when applying this. I usually use a lip liner underneath dark liquid lip products to avoid patchiness, but this formula doesn’t even need one. Once dried, it’s not going anywhere. I did keep throw this in my purse before I left the house just to have in case of feathering where my lips touch.

Laqa & Co Cloud Lips in Storm : Ugh, this lipstick is one of my most recent favorites. The shade of this is perfect for the changing season, a rich matte cranberry, it’s soft a bit thinner of a lipstick than I usually go for. But I dig it. Infused with avocado oils to enrich and moisturize your lips while looking amazing at the same time. I’m obsessed.

Morphe Liquid Lip in Nibble : Another Morphe product, but dammit, they’re good. This mulberry shade is going to be in heavy rotation. Last week was the first time I wore this, and now I can’t stop. It’s been in my purse ever since.

September 2018 Favorites!

I know, I know…who am I ? Actually getting a favorites post up before the end of the month. I’m turning over a new leaf here okay. Take a look at some of my most used products of September.

Physicians Formula Healthy Foundation SPF 20 in DN420180924011202.JPG

This vegan, paraben-free, fragrance-free, cruelty-free and dermatologist tested medium coverage drugstore foundation formula continues to amaze me with every use. I was drawn to this right around the end of summer simply because I hadn’t heard very many opinions on it. With a luminous satin matte finish, this product provides beautiful even coverage and easy application with a large doe foot applicator; similar to that in the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation. The formula is about as thick as a lightweight moisturizer and didn’t settle into any fine lines even after layering to build up the coverage.

Laura Geller Filter First Luminous Foundation

I purchased this during Ulta’s 21 Days of Beauty, it had been on radar ever since Youtuber Thataylaa used it in one her videos. The finish looked beautiful and she seemed to really enjoy it, so I figured I’d add it to the cart. I bought the shade Pecan which is described on Ulta’s site as a deeper medium shade with rich golden undertones. The shade matches PERFECTLY which I was NOT expecting since the shade range is rather limited with only 12 shades. The brand claims it’s a medium coverage foundation (True), and it can be comfortably layered to reach full coverage territory. It has ILLUMISMOOTH technology to enhance and perfect your natural skin without making your complexion (Also true). After applying the first layer, my natural skin still peaks through so freckles are visible. I’ve only had this for the last 10 days of the month, but I find myself gravitating to it almost every day for natural makeup when I have to run errands or head in to work. If you haven’t tried this, like I imagine most haven’t, I highly recommend.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Liner in 1000 Kisses

I’ve heard lots of great things about the Rimmel lip liners, and until this year didn’t really understand the need for a lipliner. Over the past few months that opinion has changed and I’ve fully embraced the product. In my search for perfect lip combinations, this product is definitely a stand out product for September. This creamy terracotta shade glides on the lips while hugging every curve of the lip. Transfer proof technology makes it extremely long wearing, which is a must in any lip product for me.

Girlactick Matte Lip Paint in Demure

If you don’t know about Girlactick, I promise you you’re not alone. But this brand was the first to introduce the makeup innovation of matte liquid lipsticks. Obviously it stuck and the entire beauty industry has adopted it and brands are constantly coming out with new formulas and colors for us beauty lovers, but I fell back in love with this shade over the last 6weeks or so, after pairing with the Rimmel lip liner, it’s been a struggle for me to use anything else on my lips. The formula is creamy and matte without drying out the lips at all. Together, the liner and liquid lip are a brown girl’s spicy sienna lip dream come true.

Dose of Colors Liquid Lipstick in Mondaze

I’ve talked previously on how much I love the Dose of Colors liquid lip formula so I won’t go in to much detail about it again here, but I now keep this velvety smoky marsala shade in my purse at all times. I’ve been reaching for it on lighter makeup days especially. It’s that better than your natural lip, natural lip color. For me at least.1537900490588.jpg1537900649529.jpg

NOTE Cosmetics Luminous Silk Blush

I received this in last month’s BoxyCharm, and I’m a sucker for a creamy blush. I honestly didn’t stand a chance. The formula contains Argan oil which adds a subtle luminosity to cheeks once applied. This shade is my go to when I don’t really want to have to think too hard about blush. It looks good every time. And now this brand is available on Ulta ! So rack up your points and try this product out.

e.l.f Cosmetics Blush Quad in Dark20180924011637.JPG

This is an oldie for me, I purchased this palette for the first time when I was still in college. So over 5 years ago, at least. Since I’ve lost, broken, and hit pan on 2 of these. Maybe that’s excessive for blush, but I really love this product. The 4 shades in here were everything I needed as I began to fall in love with makeup and to this day it continues to shine. The pigment on this $6 blush assortment is truly outstanding. e.l.f. really outdid themselves with this, but I rediscovered this early in the month all the way deep in a makeup drawer I rarely is..and well…here we are.

Morphe Continuous Setting Mist

Nothing bad to say about this product at all. The spray head sends a fine even layer of this extremely lightweight setting mist anywhere applied. I douse my skin in this and during makeup application and the final product is always seamless leaving my skin looking full airbrushed. Recently, I’ve been using it to really make my highlight stand out. After applying a bit of highlight on the cheekbones, I spray this. Let is set. Apply more highlight. Spray again and let it set. Try it if you’re a highlight fiend like myself. You won’t be disappointed.

Have you tried any of these products? What products have you been loving this month? I’d love to have a conversation in the comments !

Chocolate Peanut Butter featuring Morphe x Jaclyn Hill

WE MADE IT YOU GUYS ! Fall is here. Pumpkin Spice everything has taken over. My apartment has more fall scented things than ever, and I’m here for it ! I have a few left over posts from before my laptop almost died from summer that I will be posting over the next few weeks, but in honor of fall I wanted…no NEEDED to get up this beautiful chocolate smokey eye. It’s my first post featuring the Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Vault collection, so let’s just get into the good stuff.

EYES: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate, Morphe X Jaclyn Hill Armed & Gorgeous (Prowl, Agent, Access), Ring The Alarm (Secret, Mugshot), L.A. Girl Cosmetics Gel Liner Pencil in Metallic Copper, Eylure Luxe lashes in Marquise, Wander Beauty Mascara

No matter how you feel about Jaclyn Hill’s constant mention of Morphe products, this collection is undeniably BOMB. And to play devil’s advocate here.. Morphe products are bomb. The brands most recent launches have forced me to just embrace it. Affordable, high quality shadows, lip products (their liquid lipsticks are some of favorite on the market), and now brow products have definitely made a deeply influential statement in the cosmetics world. You can have your cake and eat it too with Morphe.

SKIN : Smashbox Cosmetics Pore Refining Photofinish Primer, Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation in Classic Tan, Makeup Revolution Conceal and Define in C12, Maybeline Better Skin Conceal in Medium, Maybelline Better Skin Powder in Coconut, Pur Cosmetics Sculptor (Inventor), Makeup Revolution Blush in Fusion, Wet N Wild Beauty Megaglo Highlighter in Fire

Would you be interested in seeing a full face of makeup using Morphe Products…or are you over how heavily saturated the beauty community has been with their products?

But on a completely different note… I don’t think my brows have ever looked as good as they did on this day. I’ve been trying and trying to get them to look this on a regular basis but it just hasn’t happened, and it’s soul crushing. But how gorgeous is this eye look ? The perfect smokey fall eye with rich warm browns, creamy blends and just a peak of this buttery rust color under the brow bone. Ugh, I’m living for this look. I’ve worn it more than once, and every single time someone compliments it. One of my favorite looks for when I want to be a bit more dramatic without a doubt.

LIPS: Milani Liquid Lipstick in Covet, Smashbox Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in Out Loud, Dose of Colors Liquid Lipstick in Knock on Wood

Yes, I’m wearing three different liquid lips, judge me. I had a vision and it came out perfectly. In person it was a beautiful ombred 90’s lip. Something else I can’t get enough of recently.

So what are you thoughts on this collab? Are you impressed and do you love it? I never bought her initial release with Morphe…overhyped products turn me off, and looking back I’m happy I didn’t get sucked into purchasing her original palette. If I did I don’t know that I would have picked up The Vault Collection, and I’m beyond happy that I did.

Thanks for stopping by ! Say something in the comments, I’d love to get your feedback, let’s have a conversation.
